Named for the first time in the so-named “Tavola
Peuntigeriana”, the first road map of the Roman Empire
with the name of “Ad Monilia”, Moneglia has very ancient
origins and a history that influenced all the
surrounding area. Dominated by the two castles of
Monleone and Villafranca, which defended the town from
sea raids, the old town is enclosed by a valley covered
by olive trees, which make Moneglia one of the most
renowned areas for the local production of olive oil.
|
|
|
The old town is cut into two parts from a medieval
“carruggio” (the Ligurian name for street), which is now
the idea place to stroll around among boutiques and
typical shops, with the possibility to visit the two
historical churches of the town: San Giorgio, dating
back to 1396 but renovated at the beginning of the 18th
Century... |
